Spaces in between
The advantage of destroying,
Is you can constantly rebuild.
There are these creative spaces,
In the Beirut streets,
Like pauses in conversation,
Or the silence between notes,
That allows music to sound.
The spaces that invite,
Words to separate,
Or the black shutter frames,
That bring out a photo,
These holes and opportunities.
Unlike Paris and Geneva,
Which are all built and done,
Beirut is always becoming,
Always rebuilding,
Finding itself,
After five thousand years,
It is still adolescent,
It breaks and builds,
Its creativity unspent.
